今回紹介する曲は、1989年に発売されたマドンナのアルバム『Like a Prayer』からの同タイトルの曲（日本で2週1位に輝いている）。

この曲、ミュージックビデオの方で物議を醸した。上記リンク先で見れるので見て欲しいのだが、キリスト教の十字架を焼くイメージ映像を使用している（アメリカにはcross-burning lawというものがあるらしい）ことで多方面より批判を浴びた。しかし一方で人種差別問題をレイプ事件、信仰という局面から映像に出していることから称賛を集めたらしい。

当時、ペプシはマドンナと5万ドルでCM契約をしたのだが、このミュージックビデオをペプシの重役が見るなりCMを打ち切ったとのこと。マドンナは契約上の義務を履行することはできず、出演料は宙に浮いたままになったとか。
